Want to send a private/direct message on Google+?
Unlike Facebook or Twitter, Google+ doesn’t have a standalone private messaging service. In this tutorial I will show you how to send a private message with Google+.
Check out my video tutorial below where I show you how to send a private/direct message on Google+
As you will see in the video above to send a private message on Google+ you need to follow these steps:
- Type your message where you would normally do a status update at the top of your stream.

- Instead of sharing the status with any of your circles, type the name of the person who you wish to send the message to, in my case it is Dustin.

- When you are done, click share.

- If you want to make sure that you have shared correctly and that your message is only going to a certain person you can check by clicking the text at the top right of the status that says “Limited”. That will show you who can see that particular status.

There we have it! That is how you send a private or direct message with Google+!
In some ways it seems a bit strange and counter-productive that Google haven’t included a private messaging option in their Google+ social network, however, I personally think that it is great that it is essentially integrated within the standard interface.
People still get notifications that they have a message either in the top right hand corner of their Google+ toolbar, or if they have email notifications set to “on”, an email notification too!
The more I use Google+, the more I fall in love with it. Yes we have to persevere and learn the features, but that is what Google+ Tutorials is all about! We want to help you get the best experience from Google+!
At the core, Google+ is so complex, yet, makes everything so effortlessly simple.
Happy private messaging!

Thanks a lot, James. Greetings from Rio!

Awesome! Glad you found it helpful, Carlos!
So the big question then becomes does the recipient also understand how to stand on their head to reply back?
IMHO, this is a cool workaround, but the fact remains that it’s a huge feature gap in Google + (and somewhat inexcusable, since Google’s “other” social networking site (orkut) does have messaging capability.
