Google’s New Toolbar And How To Get It In Less Than 60 Seconds

new google toolbarGoogle has started rolling out their newest effort in streamlining all of their products accross all properties. The new Google toolbar is on it’s way to users everywhere! It’s a brilliant choice by the g+niuses over at Google (notice the play on the G+, cause I’m slick like that). It is beautifully functional, and adds a new simplicity to all of the properties.

If you already have it activated, you know exactly what I mean. If you don’t have it activated yet, here are two ways to activiate it in less than 60 seconds!

The first method was given to me by +Matthew Garbett over on my post about the toolbar:

How to get new Google Bar early!

In Firefox press ctrl+shift+k (in Chrome ctrl+shift+j and then click “console“) and copy/paste what I have below and press enter!

  • document.cookie=”PREF=ID=03fd476a699d6487:U=88e8716486ff1e5d:FF=0:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1322688084:LM=1322688085:S=McEsyvcXKMiVfGds; domain=.google.com; path=/; expires=” + (new Date(“2013-12-1″)).toUTCString()

Once you’ve done that, you may want to restart Firefox or Chrome, and that should do the trick!

Method number two is brought to us by the good folks over at Lifehackr, and will only work for Chrome users:

First, you’ll need to download the “Edit This Cookie” browser extension for Chrome. You can do so by clicking here.

Once you’ve downloaded the extension, navigate to Google.com and hit the “Cookie” extension icon. Then click on the “PREF” section and paste the following value:

  • ID=03fd476a699d6487:U=88e8716486ff1e5d:FF=0:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1322688084:LM=1322688085:S=McEsyvcXKMiVfGds

Then all you have to do is apply the changes, and restart Chrome! After that, you should be able to go to all of Google’s properties and have that beautiful new toolbar follow you all the way!

Here are a few screenshots for good measure:

  1. Hi Dustin,
    I am enjoying th eblog so far. I had a problem implementing the new Google toolbar, though. I am running FireFox ver 8 (I got frustrated running the alpha channel version after a while ;) ), and keep getting an “Illegal character” error message when copying pasting the code above. I made sure I was not copying the bullet or the lf at the end. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    • I’ve just updated the code. Try copy/paste again, and it will now work. It seems there was an incorrect “” placement. I tried it on my wife’s account, and it worked.

  2. Thanks for the quick response, Dustin. I pasted the adjusted code, which FF accepted, but I didn’t see any change in my G+. Hmmm, something in my setup? I not know.
