google plus hangoutsIf you know about Google+ hangouts already, you probably know that you can only hangout with people who are either in front of their computer, or even on their smart phone. Either way, there had to be a video connection in order for someone to join the hangout. Well that has now changed with the most recent feature update!

Now, by utilizing Hangout’s with extras, you can make free voice calls to anyone with a phone line! This is great for voice conferencing when people cant be in front of their camera! Here’s how you do it:

Step 1Start a hangout.

Step 2 – Choose the “Try Hangouts with extras” link near the bottom of the hangout box.

Step 3 – Quickly click the “Try hangouts with extras” button in the next window.

Step 4 – You’ll then have the option to name your hangout, and choose which circles you want to invite. Once you’re ready, click “Start hangout“.

Step 5 – Now, to make a free voice call, you’ll want to hit the “Invite” button in the top left of the screen. Then you’ll select the “Phone” option where you’ll be able to dial the phone number of who you want to add to the hangout.

And there you have it!

This will be a great way for people to connect on the go. I see this being especially useful to small businesses and entrepreneurs who need a free way to have a conference with a handful of other collaborators.

How about you? How do you see yourself or others utilizing this feature? You can leave a comment by clicking here.
